Wake Co. Group Steps Up Efforts to Support Abused and Neglected Children

RALEIGH, NC - October 18, 2018 - The Friends of Wake Guardian Ad Litem (The Friends) is a local, all volunteer run non-profit dedicated to supporting the approximately 700 children in foster or kinship care here in the Triangle region. To drive awareness, raise funds and create lasting connections in our community, The Friends is holding the inaugural "Light the Way" gala hosted by Raleigh Divorce Law Firm on November 15.

"We're taking our fundraising efforts up a notch this year because of the increasing needs of the children we represent," said board member and fundraising chair, Carrie Haub. "Our efforts provide local children in care with school supplies, educational supports and activities like summer camp. Providing these activities helps us realize our vision to see every child set up for success in school and in life."

The event will take place at the 1705 East venue in Raleigh. The approximately 250 guests expected will enjoy an evening of inspiration and fun, including a silent auction, photo booth, wine pull and more. Auction items range from trips to sports memorabilia to jewelry. Speakers include State Senator Tamara Barringer and Judge Lori Christian.

"We're thrilled to be the premier sponsor of the Light the Way gala and support the critical work of The Friends," said Heather W. Forshey of Raleigh Divorce Law Firm. "We understand the impact of family and community on the lives of children and want to use our voice to advocate for the children in our county that need it most."

The Friends invites the community to join us at the gala. Tickets can be purchased here, and more information on how to become a sponsor can be found here.

"You don't have to be privileged to impact the life of a child in need," said Babs Wagner, Founder of The Friends. "We have to remember that even a small act of kindness can change a child's life."
